The Advanced Extraction Technique
After removal of one or more teeth, there is a bone defect or a decrease in the quantity of the jawbone. Over time this defect can compromise the integrity of your dental health even further. Such defects can be any one of the following:
- An aesthetic deformity
- A food trap under a bridge
- A loose and ill-fitting denture
- Inability to place dental implants to restore the missing tooth
Advanced Extraction Therapy is a new procedure which prevents the bone loss that can occur, which provides a more secure foundation for bridges, dentures or implants. This new procedure approach can also help to prevent any further defects or compromised quality of your tooth extraction area.
When a tooth is removed, a bone graft is placed into the socket to replace the missing bone. This also helps your jaw regrow some of the lost bone. This new bone growth strengthens the grafted area by forming a bridge between your existing bone and the graft. Over time, much of the grafted bone is replaced by newly formed bone which is more resistant to long-term resorption.
How is advanced extraction therapy performed?
- The tooth is removed and the remaining tooth socket is thoroughly cleansed.
- Bone grafting material is placed into the empty tooth socket.
- Stitches (sutures) are placed to allow proper healing.
